چکیده

We demonstrate selective burnout of individual carbon nanotubes that are electronically resonant with the incident laser energy. Raman spectroscopy and atomic force microscopy are used to quantify the burnout of nanotubes. The threshold laser power for rapid burnout is found to occur between 0.4 and 0.9 W/lm. At lower laser powers of 80 mW/lm, the burnout depends linearly on time, over tens of minutes. Non-resonant nanotubes could not be burned out even with high laser power or long exposure times. This preferential burnout of resonant nanotubes demonstrates the possibility of selective removal of metallic nanotubes from an inhomogeneous sample. 2009 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Carbon nanotubes as multifunctional biological transporters and near-infrared agents for selective cancer cell destruction.

Biological systems are known to be highly transparent to 700- to 1,100-nm near-infrared (NIR) light. It is shown here that the strong optical absorbance of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) in this special spectral window, an intrinsic property of SWNTs, can be used for optical stimulation of nanotubes inside living cells to afford multifunctional nanotube biological transporters. For olig...

Cancer photothermal therapy in the near-infrared region by using single-walled carbon nanotubes.

Single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) have a high optical absorbance in the near-infrared (NIR) region. In this special optical window, biological systems are known to be highly transparent. The optical properties of SWNTs provide an opportunity for selective photothermal therapy for cancer treatment. Specifically, CoMoCAT nanotubes with a uniform size (about 0.81 nm) and a narrow absorption p...

Photothermal ablation of bone metastasis of breast cancer using PEGylated multi-walled carbon nanotubes

This study investigates therapeutic efficacy of photothermal therapy (PTT) in an orthotropic xenograft model of bone metastasis of breast cancer. The near-infrared (NIR) irradiation on Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes (MWNTs) resulted in a rapid heat generation which increased with the MWNTs concentration up to 100 μg/ml. MWNTs alone exhibited no toxicity, but inclusion of MWNTs dramatically decre...

Growth Position and Chirality Control of Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes

We propose a novel technique to grow the single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) with specific chirality at the desired position using free electron laser (FEL) irradiation during growth and surface treatment. As a result, only the semiconducting SWNTs grew at the area between triangle electrodes, where the ozone treatment was done to be hydrophilic when an alcohol chemical vapor deposition (ACC...

A novel label-free cocaine assay based on aptamer-wrapped single-walled carbon nanotubes

Objective(s): This paper describes a selective and sensitive biosensor based on the dissolution and aggregation of aptamer wrapped single-walled carbon nanotubes. We report on the direct detection of aptamer–cocaine interactions, namely between a DNA aptamer and cocaine molecules based on near-infrared absorption at λ807. Materials and Methods: First a DNA aptamer recognizing cocaine was non-co...
